Chapter 4 Deliveries?!
Finally, after a wait of two months or so... IT IS HERE!!!!

Shadows of the Light
Chapter 4. Deliveries?!

[It’s after school the next day, Rei is just entering Old Himo’s store.]
Old Himo: Oh, you’re here. Quick put these on.
[Himo hands a pile of clothes to Rei]
Rei: This must be some sort of special training uniform right?
Old Himo: You could say.
[Rei goes in back, changes into the clothes. When he comes back out front he’s got a very confused look on his face.]
Rei: Hey, ummm, Himoura… this just looks like a delivery boy uniform.
Old Himo: Well that makes sense. Because you’re going to be making deliveries for me today.
Rei: Deliveries!!!!???
Old Himo: Hey, you said you’d do anything to learn how to control your powers, you agreed to not question me. Or do you want to go on trying to figure things out for yourself?
Rei: I’m sorry, sensei. I didn’t mean to be hostile towards you.
Old Himo: Good. [Himo picks up a large box and hands it to Rei] Now, go deliver this to the address on top of the box. It needs to be there by 4:30pm.
Rei: Whoa, this thing weighs a ton. Wait a minute! 4:30! That only gives me half an hour. And this address is across town!
Old Himo: Well you’d better get going then.
[Rei rushes out of the building and manages to get the package to it’s destination just on time. Old Himo has Rei deliver 2 more packages that day, each heavier than the one before it and all having very long distances for Rei to traverse in a very short time. After returning from the third trip Rei notices that Old Himo has closed up shop and walks in through the back door.]
Rei: Sensei!? Are you in here?
Old Himo: Yes, come and sit down.
[Rei sees Himo sitting in a chair and takes the empty seat adjacent to Himo’s]
Rei: Sensei, I made the deliveries like you asked, but when will our training begin?
Old Himo: It already has. The packages were very heavy so they helped you become stronger. And the deliveries required you to travel long distances in short times making you faster. You can continue your training here as long as you like.
Rei: What!? You make me work for you and call it training! This is outrageous. If this is the only training I’ll get from you then I’m better off on my own.
[Rei burst out of Himo’s store and runs home.]

[the next day at school]
Naomi: Hi Rei! How did your training go with the old man?
Rei: It didn’t. The old fool had me doing deliveries for him and tried to call it training. He was just looking to make a profit by having a free employee.
Naomi: Oh, I’m sorry. So what are you going to do now?
Rei: Naomi, goodbye.
Naomi: What?! It’s not time to leave school yet.
Rei: No, I’m not just leaving school. I’m leaving this all.
Naomi: But, Rei. Just because your training didn’t go well doesn’t mean you have to leave town.
Rei: I’m sorry Naomi, I’ve made up my mind. I can’t get any stronger hanging around here, I need to go out in the world and find a purpose, something to fight for.
Naomi: Okay, I can tell there’s no way I can talk you out of this. I guess there’s only one thing to do… I’m coming with you.
[Rei stands shocked as Naomi quickly runs to her locker to retrieve her stuff.]
Rei: No, Naomi. You can’t, it’s too dangerous.
Naomi: Exactly why I have to go. You’ll need my help.
Rei: No, really, you have to much going for ya here.
Naomi: Don’t try to talk me out of this. I already thought I’d lost you once. I’m not gonna lose you again.
[Naomi realizes too late what she just said and immediately starts to blush. Rei just stands there staring right into Naomi’s eyes.]
Rei: Okay, you can come. Meet me at the train station at 4pm tonight. The train leaves at 4:25, if you aren’t there I’ll be gone.
Naomi: I’ll be there.
