.The Godless Messiah

So, i've got an idea for a story, hopefully i'll be able to stick to it and write something halfway decent. Here's a couple of facts that helped inspire the story.

1. The Brotherhood of Life: a secret society formed by the Shogun in Japan during the feudal ages. The chief purpose of the brotherhood is to fight "demons." The one recorded account of the brotherhood can be found in Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide. It is a reccount of what a christian minister learned from a young man who wished to escape from his service. He told of the demons that were once human, died, and rose again as mindless beings that craved human flesh. The brotherhood's members are trained in the art of destroying such demons. The man was killed shortly later by the brotherhood. They do not allow desertion nor do they risk their secrets.

2. Zombies are not mystical in any way. They are the result of the virus Solanum. Zombies lack higher brain functions and thus cannot think, they only have the basic instict to search out food (human flesh) at all costs.

3. It is impossible to utilize zombies as a weapon because they cannot be trained. They're minds are akin to the simplest organisms on the planet, they feed on whatever is nearest and their hunger is never sated.

Story Idea:
It's the future, zombies have replaced humans as the earth's dominant species. Our story starts in one of the world's last human strongholds, called City-X until i think of a name. A man from city-X in the defense force is lost on a routine search and destroy mission. He is attacked by zombies and after barely holding his own against them for a little while, he is found by a team from the Brotherhood of Light. They bring him back to the temple and he becomes one of them eventually and learns that the people in charge of City-X were responsible for the Solanum outbreak that caused the zombies to overrun.
The brotherhood's own over-zealous secrecy and stuff eventually will fail and he will find out the dark past of the brotherhood as well, and he'll end up becoming a lone fighter searching to save the people he grew up with or loves from zombies, defense force soldiers, and the Brotherhood.
